New Social Media Policies Database

Thumbs-up approved with a blue filter

I assembled a collection of social media policies: Social Media Policies Database.

So far I have 117 a bunch in the database. That’s a very small number, but I think most companies want to keep their policies private. If I am missing any, please leave a comment letting me or send me an email: [email protected].

I have added a column for industry. So far I have the following industries:

  • Education
  • Finance
  • Government
  • Healthcare
  • Law firm
  • Media
  • Non-profit
  • Professional services
  • Retail
  • Technology

One thing that really stuck out is the varied names for the policies.  “Social media guidelines” with 9 and “social media policy” with 13 were the most popular names.

Doug – you should team up with Chris Boudreaux from Social Media Governance (http://socialmediagovernance.com). He has about 140 collected. Perhaps you guys could help each others collection grow? Excited to see this project developed.

      Thanks Mike.

I am familiar with his database. Last I checked, he has 115 in his, but a few are outdated and a few are not in English. I also found some new ones.

I was out looking for overlap and commonality. I didn’t find much. Even the titles of the policies vary wildly. One goal is to see if the industry can better standardize their approach.

Thanks, Doug, for gathering these together. Organizations need to see examples to help thier discussion processes about what issues may come up and how to handle them. Seeing what other organizations are doing can also help them avoid just clamping down out of fear.
