Twitter

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

I use Twitter, using @dougcornelius as my username, as a way to keep in touch with friends, colleagues, interesting people and “weak ties.” I have to admit that my activity is not steady. I’m generally more active when I’m stuck trying to kill time and don’t have something interesting to read.

What Do I Twitter About?

My updates are all over the place: compliance, fraud, securities, cycling, books, and paddling. You’re not going to get a consistent message. If that’s a problem, don’t follow me.

Do I Use Other Twitter Accounts?

I also use @ComplianceBuild in Twitter to automatically publish blog posts from Compliance Building into the Twitter stream. Twitter has become a powerful tool for searching on topics. I want to inject my blog posts into that pool of information. Otherwise, I rarely post anything except blog posts from that Twitter account.

Who am I?

You can read more about me on the About page here at Compliance Building or for a more personal side, the “About” page over at DougCornelius.com. To sum up my story, I am former lawyer at a big law firm, who worked in real estate finance, moved to knowledge management and now hold a job as Chief Compliance Officer at a real estate private equity firm based in Boston.

Will I follow You back?

Maybe. Are these true about your Twitter account?:

  • Did you fail to upload a picture or avatar?
  • Do you fail to put any information about yourself in your bio, location and website?
  • Do you have more than two updates?
  • Do you follow many more people than those that follow you?
  • Do any of your recent updates make references to the need to achieve more followers?
  • Are you going to send me an automatic message “thanks for the follow. . .”?
  • Do you post updates only about your product or service?
  • Are you a social media expert?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, then I am unlikely to follow you. From FOLLOW FAIL: The Top 10 Reasons I Will Not Follow You in Return on Twitter.

Is there a Disclaimer

I am a lawyer, so of course there is a disclaimer. Please read it.

  1. I started twitter a few weeks ago, since then I’ve begun to love it. What started out as a hatred for Twitter it’s allowed me to network with people in my business alot easier. News and updates happen in right away which makes for a great social communication app.
